WELCOME TO THE 2011-2012 SCHOOL YEAR FROM PRINCIPAL McCORKLE
I’m very proud to welcome you to one of the best high schools in the United States Albuquerque High School.  We are fortunate and thankful to be a part of a wonderfully supportive community—a community that values education, service to our world, and activities that help students develop in a well-rounded, diverse fashion.  Our students and staff are well-known for their amazing achievements, but what most impresses me is their character and commitment to Rigor, Relevance, Relationships, and Responsibility.

STUDENTS EQUATE SUCESS WITH PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT
Kids will tell you what they need to succeed, if you ask them. But whose responsibility is that, the parents’, the teachers’ or the students’ themselves?

The Schools & Community Partnerships and Title I departments at Albuquerque Public Schools are joining forces to bring family engagement to the forefront and answer the question. They found some answers by sitting down with a diverse group of Albuquerque High School seniors who told them, sometimes amid tears, about the role adults in their lives have played in their education.

CONGRATULATIONS TO RICHARD, CLAIRE & SHENEILLE - APS SELFLESS SENIORS
The Albuquerque Public Schools Education Foundation has selected the fifth class of Selfless Seniors, each with a record of helping in their community with little or no recognition.

The 27 students chosen as 2012 Selfless Seniors are serious about their futures, yet find ways to put others before themselves. They maintain a GPA of at least 2.0 and are in good standing in terms of attendance and behavior at APS comprehensive or alternative high schools. But more importantly, they’ve had a positive impact on the lives of others and have characters that set them apart.

Thanks to Albuquerque photographer Frank Frost and Wells Fargo Bank, they will be honored in the spring at a ceremony that draws hundreds of friends, family and school peers.

AHS GETS GREAT REVIEW!
Greatschools.org lists more than 200,000 public and private schools serving students from preschool through high school. It has more than 800,000 parent ratings and reviews. “Great schools” has become a guide for parents aiming to make the best school choice. We researched New Mexico on this site to see what the top five choices were. Albuquerque High School was one of these top five schools.

“Best schools” grades are based on performance on state standardized tests. By clicking on a tab, parents can see the detailed results of those exams. There is also a community rating based on parent reviews and viewers can even read one to get an idea of a ‘red light’ school. Contact information for each school is also listed and there is a link that will show viewers homes for sale in the neighborhood. Searches can be conducted for any city in New Mexico, small or large. “Great schools” is a non-profit organization and has been backed by CNN. It gets funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and had 37 million hits last year alone.
